WAITETE RFC 1954 -1975
KING COUNTRY RUGBY 1955 -1972
NEW ZEALAND 1957 - 1971 153 MATCHES (55 TESTS)

Voted "Player of the Century" of the New Zealand Rugby public in 1999, Colin Meads is arguably the most famous rugby player in the world. Even though his international playing career ended in 1971, he is still held in high regard as our greatest ever All Black.

Less well known however, is his loyalty and service to the only club he ever played for - Waitete RFC.
In honour of this service the Club has retired Colin's jersey No 5. As from April 2004, no player representing Waitete on the field shall wear the number 5 jersey.

WAITETE RFC

Founded in 1931, Waitete is located in the small rural township of Te Kuiti in the central North Island of New Zealand.
Throughout its history, the club has been a dominant force in the King Country Rugby Union competition. It has won more club championships and provided more players for King Country representative teams than any other club in the union.

As well as "Pinetree" two other players have achieved All Black selection while representing Waitete.
Stan Meads 1961 - 1966 Kevin Boroevich 1983 - 1988

Numerous others have represented National teams including NZ Maori, NZ Colts, NZ Junior, NZ Emerging Players and NZ Divisional XV as well as All Black trial, North Island and Super 12 teams.

Several Waitete administrators have been prominent at Provincial and National level, including Meads himself.
